Tax “Slow Down”

By

Happy Monday! Everybody get a little something knocked off the list these last coupla days? I only saw a couple hands go up so I’ll assume the rest of you were slacking… Get busy, this ain’t the 90′s when we all had a lot of time left to get our Prepping house in order…

I’ve mentioned in the past that I held a government job in the earlier part of my working career. It was for the local county government and I was forced at gun point to join the union on top of that… Alright, it wasn’t at gun point but I was forced to join since it wasn’t optional. Don’t get me wrong the pay was good and the benefits were even better…

Just for clarification this will sound like I’m bashing unions and I kind of am but that isn’t the point of today’s post. If a little union bashing is going to get your panties in a wad, to bad… I doubt any of my readers would fall into the “Union Slacker” role but take a look around and I guarantee you will find plenty at your work site!

OK, enough direct bashing… It’s one of the union practices/tactics that I witnessed during my years at the county that I want to bring to everyone’s attention today. This tactic might be called something different elsewhere but in my experience it is referred to as a “Work Slowdown”.

The “Work Slowdown” is where all of the union employees would do EVERYTHING in their job description to the letter of the company policy. Since many company policies are ludicrous and time consuming, a typical work day would find most if not all employees skipping the needless BS, in favor of more efficient work conditions.

While these slowdowns weren’t common, they were effective. Usually a couple times a year there would be some “Message” that needed to be sent to the appropriate managers and policy setters. The message was that the Union had the clout to make the wheels on the bus move very slowly, if they didn’t get whatever the flavor of the day was for their members. Word of the slowdown was spread through the typical grapevine or possibly even through a formal union meeting at the job site.

These slowdowns never failed to accomplish their intended purpose. They were a passive aggressive way of communicating a loud message. The lynch pin to the entire plan was that since none of the workers was doing anything but follow the needless policies and procedures, the management had nothing to say about it. No punishments or coercion could be applied back against the union. It usually would only take a one day slowdown to get the point across and it would be back to business as usual. I can look myself in the mirror and honestly say I never participated in any of these shenanigans but hey I have to give credit where it’s due, the tactic did work!

I need to clarify that yes I do despise the union and the mentality that went with it. I have spoken to other union members over the years and they have me questioning if my opinion of the unions is accurate across the board or maybe just in my limited experience. You don’t need to email and tell me you’re a member of one of the “Good” unions. Maybe you are but I encourage you to take a look around, see any dead-weight taking up space and resources? We had a name for those union members – “Uncle Deadwood”, he had been there forever and even might have been paid more than you but did nearly nothing and couldn’t be fired because of the union…

Rant off… It really isn’t of any consequence how I feel about your precious Union but I wouldn’t be above using their tactics if it would serve my purposes. I believe that it will and that’s what I want to propose a Tax “Slow Down”… Just like the union, we need to send a message further up the food chain that we are unhappy and that we will be heard one way or the other…

Do understand that the critical point in the story about union slowdowns was the fact that there was no broken laws or even broken rules. The implementation of following the letter of the law was all that was needed to make the desired impact. We live in a land that has far to many laws and a creative mind may be able to discover additional applications to this slowdown theme.

The slowdown I am going to encourage everyone to participate in is a tax slowdown… Don’t break any laws or creative an opening for a punitive action to be brought against you. I will make several suggestions here that almost any of us can implement immediately. First, make the proper adjustments to your W4 form with your employer… If you receive an income tax return each year than this one is for you… As I know you are aware, the money you get back each April is already yours! If you make the adjustment in your payroll withholding, you can have the money in your pocket all year instead of giving it to Uncle Deadwood, whoops, I mean Uncle Sam.

Is this to much trouble or make you nervous that you may have to actually write the IRS a check instead of receiving one? It will be far more inconvenient later, if we have to go in and physically take control back from our out of control federal and state politically elected employees… How about denying them the ability to even collect a tax from you in the first place?

Depending which state you live in this may or may not apply to you… How about going out of your way to deny the sales tax being charged on as many items as possible… Pretty revolutionary don’t you think? It’s really that simple too, every tax that the government is denied has a big effect on their bottom line. Is there a question in anyone’s mind why the IRS is hiring more auditors? It would appear that our brothers in arms have already implemented their own tax slowdowns…

How far can each of us take this idea? Remember you’re not breaking any laws but only be taking full advantage of any and every tax loophole you might be able to discover. I encourage each of you to think through all of the places that you’re being taxed, I can only imagine your list will be as long as mine! If we all make this a point in our daily lives, we WILL have an effect and it will be far larger than you might imagine.

Our government at every level is spending far more money each year than what they bring in the form of taxes. What happens in our families when we run the budget so tight that we have nothing left over for savings? Now think about if we were using the old credit card to make ends meet, like the government is doing and has been fro a good many years. What’s that one additional unexpected monthly expense going to do to all those balls so carefully being juggled? This has the same effect whether it’s an unexpected expense or a few hours of pay being cut from the bottom line… Now multiply that out over all of the people in our union… The union of free thinkers and freedom seekers…

Sounds good doesn’t it, sending a financial message to our keepers that we are watching and not going to stand idly by any longer… All using nothing more than the loop holes that they allow in the tax code. Think it over and start looking for ways to be a tax deny-er! Unite with your brothers to make a positive change to the environment that we are all forced to work within! A simple small step in the right direction that could have great benefits politically and will reap you great benefits financially either way!
