In response to…

By Prepper

The following is a comment that I received this evening from an active participant here on preppernation- JeSter… Good question and I have no issue in answering it but I thought it would be worth answering as a short post instead of a personal email or just a comment reply.

Unfortunately, I have to ask this question as it has become relevant to me recently.  I’m guessing you have read or even heard about the Beck interview with the 9/11 truth-er candidate for Governor in TX.

What is your position?  Did the U.S. Government, in your view, participate in or orchestrate 9/11?

It is important for me to know your stance.  Personally I don’t care what you believe, but I need to determine where I spend my time and effort.

I look forward to your candid reply.

Alright, here goes… First, I hadn’t heard the interview in question but did hear some of the aftermath on Becks show later that same day. I often listen to Beck as I’m getting ready for work but seldom pay real close attention, unless it grabs me.

I found the interview on youtube and just listened to it. All I can say is, who abducted Glenn, this interview was not the Glenn Beck I’m familiar with. I have gotten out of the habit of keeping up widely on politics these last few years as they infuriate me so badly. I honestly haven’t even heard of Debra Medina but I didn’t hear anything I disagreed with, I only listened to it once, so I suppose I could have missed something but she sounds like my kind of politician.

As far as 9/11 truthers go, I had only heard the term as a derogatory and made the connection with democrats bashing President Bush. I am not a Democrat and have very little patience with the petty quibbling that goes on back and forth across the aisle bu both parties. I am a conservative and have been leaning more toward the Libertarian side of things as of late. I can find something wrong with every party I’ve looked at but I believe in as much freedom as possible. Often through lack of viable choice I vote republican but it is almost 100% of the time while holding my nose and begging  for forgiveness.

Do I think the government had ANYTHING to do with 9/11…? I would be hard pressed to say that we have heard all the evidence on this. Do I think George Bush had prior knowledge of the pending attack -- I sincerely doubt he did. PLEASE hear me out as I’m not finished… I’ve been asked to share my views on this and I think that there is more to say on the topic of the US Government and my trust!

I think that my views of the government are pretty transparent if you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all… I will clarify my position and will even discuss this issue further with anyone who wants to respectfully discuss it.

As a young hot headed man in the 1990′s I first heard about a place in Idaho called Ruby Ridge, you know the one where the white supremacist Randy Weaver had a show down with the government. This particular news story was a turning point in my political and government awareness. Initially I thought that the government had a fringe kook pinned down and he probably deserved what he got.

I was wrong and so was my government. We can debate the merits of Weavers views on race but we can not debate his views on freedom! He asked to be left alone and attempted to comply with our government. Unfortunately Mr. Weaver was singled out and made an example of. The political and anti-government backlash from this debacle was felt for years! I learned that what I had wanted to believe about my government was just not true. They were not always right and could not be trusted to do the right thing, they must be watched with a wary eye!

A short time later there was another polarising incident in America. It happened in Waco, TX. Anyone remember what I’m talking about? I can feel my blood begin to boil all over again just writing this. Our government up to its tricks again! I don’t pretend to believe that I know if David Koresh thought he was the messiah or not. I don’t even care, as far as I could see then and through the research I did in the years following the tragedy, the government completely @#$@@#*&% the whole thing up! We could g0 round and round on if there were parts to build machine guns in that compound or not, again I don’t care if there were! Dozens of people died at the hands of a big headed BATF and all the other alphabet soup outfits that came along for the ride…

My government has shown it’s citizens, the people who employee them, that they can not be trusted! They have to be watched closer than a three year old in a candy shop. Absolute power has corrupted absolutely!

The point I’m trying to make is that I do not blindly trust or believe anything that the government does. There are things that they do that are honest but I evaluate everything as if it could be a lie. Unfortunately, many things they say and do are not as they would have us believe. I don’t go around wearing a foil hat but just recognise that once you lie to me, you’ve lost my trust and until it is earned back, it’s gone!

So, did George Bush know we would be attacked on 9/11? Again, I doubt it. Did someone inside the government know of the attack and fail to act, probably! We have seen that even when the government is warned by a potential terrorists own father, they fail to act. The case I’m thinking of was just a couple months ago with the underwear bomber… If the government can’t pull it’s head out and accept a gimme like that individual then what did they miss with 9/11. Surely something!

Next question, is the incompetent boobs that are making decisions at the top capable of keeping such a plot a secret all these years? I have my doubts. All of these things add up to what I base my opinion on when it comes to there “Involvement” in the 9/11 attacks.

As for Debra Medina, I’ll be watching for more from that woman in the future! She talks a good game but when it comes to politicians, they have to earn my trust -- hopefully yours too!

    Prepper,

I asked you a serious question, you responded in a robust and candid manner, so I feel obligated to say more than; “thanks”. Maybe this post will be helpful to all.

Your answer got me thinking. I don’t want to get bogged down by the technical parts of the conversation. However, your statement “Did someone inside the government know of the attack and fail to act, probably!”, got me thinking.

I am personally dealing with a government bureaucracy right now. The reality is, in my experience, that bureaucrats become mind-numbed robots over time (even if they are truly good people). So what does this have to do with prepping? It’s a matter of task and purpose. Unfortunately I think human nature and redundancsy favor focusing on the task rather than the purpose.

When I was a young infantry officer I learned this lesson the hard way on a field exercise. My platoon was training on how to attack a trench line. We practised this over 48 hours. We even conducted a live fire exercise in a trench line. Both my Company and Battalion Cammander observed my platoon execute our trench clearing techniques and I was told we were, hands down, the best in the Battalion. That evening we received our orders for the force-on-force part of the training. We were to raid an enemy communications site, destroy their communications capability, and guess what? It was a trench and bunker complex. We knew we were ready. We came up with our plan and walked all night to get to the objective. Just before dawn we raided the communication site. My platoon was a well oiled machine. We sliced through the enemy like a hot knife through butter. We destroyed the enemy force without a loss and quickly moved to a safe distance to consolidate and reorganize (you never stay on the objective in a raid as you mey get hit with artillery or a counter-attack).

At this point the exercise was over. We dropped our kit and began our after action review. The Captain, who was evaluating us, asked how I thought we did. I was very happy with our performance and told him so. At this point he directed our attention to the main bunker on the objective. “What’s in there lieutenant?”, he asked me. I jumped down in the bunker and my heart quickly sank. There was a table with multiple radios, maps and enemy communications data. It was all untouched. We had failed to accomplish the mission.

The point is; DO NOT get so focused on the task at hand that you lose sight of the purpose! Prepper posted about “Why we prep?” recently. That is spot on, but it is at a macro level. ALWAYS keep your purpose in mind in everything you do! It is too easy to get caught up in the task at hand.

My platoon cleared that trench like experts (task), but we failed to destroy the communications equipment(purpose). Prepping is a hobby to many of us. This can also lead to problems regarding task and purpose. For example, I love guns. However, I always need to keep the pupose of my purchases in the front of my mind. It is easy to get carried away and buy “cool guy gear” (task) and forget why I am buying the stuff in the first place (purpose).

Hopefully, that is a bit better than “thanks for your reply.”
