Hi, I want to say thank you for an informative site about a subject I have had an interest in for a long time now. I have been lurking and reading the posts avidly so just wanted to express my gratitude for providing me with some very good reading material. I look forward to more, and taking a more active role in the discussions here, whilst learning too!! Here is a video of a home lighting plant some of you might be interested in viewing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADgxxVzC71Y

Yes, like I keep saying we are living in interesting times! I was a bit more concerned about EMP after finishing the book - "One Second After" but to risk a spoiler, it wasn't the EMP that was the real threat, it was the starvation. We need to spend more time on the food thing than a specific threat, food preps cover a lot of scenarios we might dream up. I have made a few EMP preps such as some radio equipment stored inside ammo cans and many of my preps are stored inside a metal cargo container that just happens to be grounded to a 600+ foot deep steel well housing pipe. We need to just keep chipping away at the things in front of us but inevitably we will have preps or situations that we over looked... Such is life as a prepper!

I felt the same as you about EMP being a low probability. It still may be low as we will very likely experience an economic collapse before an EMP attack. However, just something to think about...I always assumed an EMP attack might come from China and thus the probability was low.

However, I think Iran is the REAL threat with regard to EMP. We know they are developing nukes and now they are working on a space program. Space program = delivery system. Not to mention religious fanatics are more likely to hose us than communists.

"An article published in Iran's security journal Nashriyeh-e Siasi Nezami in 1999 identified an EMP attack as a way to defeat the US as a military power and as a state."

I hope you don't have to walk either, but at least you have a plan. I'm not suggesting "freaking out" about EMP, but we all might take it a little more seriously due to current events.

EMP...Good point JeSter... I certainly can't rule that out and I'm not as knowledgeable about EMP as some but I just don't see it as HIGHLY likely! Could be that I'm doing the "Wishful" thinking thing. I sure hope I don't have to deal with that but my contingency plan is still my pickup, its a 1991 Dodge Ram with the cummins diesel. I have ran that thing without even having a battery after getting it started... It's more tractor than truck but like I said I don't know what to expect forsure. I do have a route laid out to walk but I REALLY hope it doesn't come to that. I have good neighbors that are twitchey about strangers and trespassing so I have a pretty good idea that even if it took us a couple weeks to walk to distance my preps would still be where I left them...
